Google Sheets offers conditional notification feature

Google Sheets introduces a new conditional notification feature that makes it possible for users to receive email notifications on certain cell changes. This new feature allows users to set rules to automatically receive notifications if certain cells change in documents to which they have editing access.

Google Sheets users will now be able to create rules that allow them to receive notifications when certain criteria are met. For example, email notifications can be received for changes in a specific cell range or updating a column value. This feature helps Sheets capture some of the features that have been available in Microsoft Excel for years, while also offering similar functionality to project management tools like Airtable.

Google Sheets' new conditional notification feature allows users to be instantly notified when certain criteria are met. For example, you can receive notifications when the status or owner of a specific task changes in a project tracking document, or when a number falls below a certain amount in a forecast analysis. This feature is much easier to configure than setting similar notifications in Excel and does not require any VBA coding or the use of Power Automate.

Google showed how this feature can be used by providing some examples of conditional notifications. For example, you can receive notifications when the status or owner of a specific task changes in a project tracking document, or when a number falls below a certain amount in a forecast analysis. The notification email will also include information such as who made the change. Additionally, it is possible to add other people's e-mail addresses when setting the rules so that they can also receive notifications.

Free personal accounts using Google Sheets will not be able to benefit from this feature.

This new feature is available to some users as of June 4, but it may take some time for Workspace accounts (Business, Enterprise, or Education) to gain full access. Google stated that it will offer this feature with a 15-day gradual distribution period for users using the default release schedule, starting from June 18. However, free personal accounts will not be able to benefit from this feature.

This new conditional notification feature of Google Sheets looks set to significantly improve user experience, especially in project management and data analysis. In this way, users will be instantly informed of important changes and will be able to track data more effectively.

This new feature is considered an important step towards making Google Sheets a more integrated and interactive working platform rather than just a spreadsheet tool. Sheets users will have a more efficient and effective working environment with this new feature.
