Google NotebookLM now offers a more flexible experience with customizable audio summaries

Google is introducing an important update to its artificial intelligence-supported note-taking application NotebookLM, allowing users to configure audio summaries. Introduced last month, audio summaries were a feature that relied on two AI presenters having a “live” discussion on a particular topic. Now, users will be able to give these artificial intelligence servers instructions on what issues they should focus on. This stands out as an innovation that aims to make research and note-taking processes more focused and efficient.

More targeted content with personalization

NotebookLM’s new personalization feature allows users to direct AI presenters’ discussions to specific topics. Under the “in-depth conversation” option, users can tell the presenters what topics they need to cover. Thus, more customized and targeted audio summaries can be created. This feature provides a great advantage for researchers and students. Because when summarizing comprehensive materials, unnecessary content that goes beyond the relevant information can be created. This personalization helps prevent such errors and more clearly identifies areas that need to be focused.

Raiza Martin, NotebookLM’s product manager, stated that the most requested feature by users is to give a little guidance to artificial intelligence. In this way, artificial intelligence can create a more accurate summary without going beyond the information given. On the other hand, NotebookLM now allows listening to audio summaries while running in the background. Users can listen to these summaries and interact with their sources while doing research.

NotebookLM edition for business

Google plans to make NotebookLM available not only for individual users but also for institutions. This pilot program, called “NotebookLM Business”, will offer businesses advanced features such as higher usage limits and information sharing within the team. This version aims to enable teams to collaborate more effectively on projects and is expected to find wider use in the business world.

Finally, it is worth noting that NotebookLM also gains the ability to extract summaries from YouTube videos and audio files. This development makes it easier for users to gather information from a wider range of content.

Google aims to transform NotebookLM from just a note-taking tool into a comprehensive research and content management platform for both individuals and institutions.
