With the new regulation of the Ministry of Commerce, a significant change is being made in e-commerce shopping from abroad. As of December 27, 2024, the customs exemption limit will be 27 euros, including shipping costs.
With the regulation, even if sellers offer a free shipping option, a freight fee of 3 euros will be included in the calculation. This situation will be reflected as additional costs to consumers, especially for low-amount purchases.
Shopping from popular shopping sites such as global e-commerce platforms Temu and AliExpress will also be affected by this new regulation. These platforms are expected to reconsider their competitive strategies in the Turkish market.
New regulations in commercial imports
The changes are not limited to individual purchases. The product limit within the scope of the “Simplified Customs Declaration” is reduced from 2000 pieces to 500 pieces. This regulation closely concerns businesses that import for commercial purposes and brings about stricter inspection processes.
E-commerce industry experts predict that the new regulation may affect consumer behavior, especially in low-amount purchases. Increasing costs in shopping abroad may increase the tendency towards domestic e-commerce platforms.
The exemption limit, which was 150 euros before the regulation, was reduced to 30 euros in the first stage. Now, the new limit of 27 euros, including shipping, will bring about significant changes in the e-commerce ecosystem.
Experts state that the new regulation may cause global e-commerce platforms to restructure their operations in Turkey. Platforms that use their competitive advantage, especially in low-priced products, are expected to develop new strategies.
