Communication becomes quieter with the new feature coming to Meta glasses

Meta has launched a software update that will allow smart glasses users to interact more naturally and comfortably in daily use. The new feature targets those who are uncomfortable giving voice commands, especially in crowded environments. With this update number 19.2, it is possible to send messages or make calls without using the “hey Meta” command. Thus, the glasses experience becomes more compatible not only technologically but also socially.

The “quick access” feature introduced with this update is integrated into the touch panel on the right edge of the glasses. By pressing and holding this panel for a few seconds, the user can call or send a message to the designated person. However, which person will be contacted via which application can be selected in advance. WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or the phone’s native messaging applications are among these options. In addition to all this, photos or videos taken with glasses can be sent directly via the same shortcut. This shows that the device is not just a visual tool, but also a communication terminal.

It is possible to interact silently with meta glasses

The convenience offered by the new system stands out especially in outdoor or public areas. Instead of saying “hey Meta” loudly in the crowd, performing transactions with a silent touch provides a much more comfortable experience for the user. In addition, the quick access feature saves time for those who want to use the glasses actively. In this way, Meta is trying to make the device compatible with the daily habits of more people. Short commands free the user from having to rely on the voice command system. Thus, glasses become an active tool in communication rather than a technological accessory.

At the Connect event organized by Meta recently, some important developments for third-party applications were also announced. These developments include a system where developers can define their own wake words. However, it is not yet clear when such customizations will be available to the general user. Despite this, Meta’s support for different scenarios can increase the flexibility of the device. On the other hand, users’ habits continue to play a decisive role in the spread of such technologies. Software updates maintain this balance and improve the device both technically and practically.

The shortcut function offered by the glasses makes communicating not only quieter but also faster. The user no longer has to deal with different menus to contact the person he/she has determined. This direct connection via glasses allows the device to have a more functional structure. In addition to all these, sharing content taken with glasses with a single touch directly affects the use of social media. The instant shooting and instant sharing cycle also becomes attractive for content producers. Thus, the device is positioned as an active digital platform, not just passive hardware.

With the update, Meta’s effort to reduce dependence on the voice command system also becomes more visible. However, voice command has not been completely eliminated. Therefore, saying “hey Meta” may still be necessary for some transactions. However, the short access feature significantly reduces this dependency by offering the user an alternative path. This approach may especially please those who want to use technology in a more controlled and privacy-oriented manner. At the same time, it facilitates better adaptation of the device to the general user profile.

Despite everything, the practical use of glasses is still subject to certain limits. Technical details such as the functionality of the touch area, the response speed of the software and switching between applications still remain important. However, Meta’s efforts to make the device more accessible despite these limits are noteworthy. What is important for users is how easily the device can be adapted to daily life. As the functionality of glasses increases, interaction with personal technology becomes more intense. This is among the factors that can increase user loyalty over time.
