Bluesky added a dedicated “Mentions” tab to the notification area

With version 1.96, Bluesky introduced a new feature that will improve the user experience and the “Mentions” tab was added to the notifications section. Thanks to this new feature, it has become much easier to view the interactions in which your name is mentioned on the platform and the replies you receive under a single tab.

The 1.96 update is not limited to the “Mentions” tab. Users now also have the ability to adjust how replies to their posts are displayed. Responses can be presented in two different formats:

  • Linear View: Posts are listed one under the other.
  • Nested View: Replies are indented like on Reddit.

Additionally, there are various filter options to sort the answers. Users can view replies in a sorting order of newest, oldest, most liked, “hottest,” or random (Bluesky calls this “Poster’s Roulette”).

📢 App Version 1.96 is rolling out now (1/6)In this release: a notifications Mentions tab, reserving your default username when you verify your account with a domain, and other improvements!

Bluesky made another important change with version 1.96. If users set a custom domain name as their username, the old .bsky.social Usernames will be automatically protected. This will prevent these names from being taken by other users.

Although Bluesky experienced a large increase in users in November, its growth rate has slowed down somewhat recently. Still, the platform managed to surpass 25 million total users last week. It is known that the company plans to launch a subscription service in early 2024 and offer its own payment platform in the future.

Struggles with strong competitors like Bluesky Threads

While Bluesky continues to expand its user base, it is also struggling with strong competitors like Meta’s Threads platform. Threads attracts attention by offering more features to its users and reminding that it has a large user base.

It is clear that Bluesky aims to increase user loyalty with such innovative updates. However, it remains a matter of curiosity what strategy the platform will follow against major competitors such as Meta in the future.
