Apple’s touchscreen MacBook may come with M5 Pro and M5 Max

New information has emerged about Apple’s touch-screen MacBook model, which has been on the agenda for a long time. According to the latest claim shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple does not plan to postpone this product to a newer processor generation than expected. Accordingly, the first touchscreen MacBook model will come with the high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced this year. As previously shared expectations, models with 14-inch and 16-inch screen options are expected to be introduced between the end of 2026 and the first months of 2027.

According to Gurman’s news, based on sources knowledgeable about the company’s plans, Apple may skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max generation and move directly to the M7 Pro and M7 Max platform. However, this is not expected to change the schedule of the touch-screen MacBook. It is stated that the first generation will be offered with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, and the updated version that will come later will switch to the M7 family.

Touch-screen MacBook may also offer innovations in design and display

According to information provided by Bloomberg, Apple will not be satisfied with just adding a touch screen. The Dynamic Island interface used on iPhones is also planned to be adapted to the macOS experience in the new MacBook model that the company is working on. In addition, it is expected that OLED screen technology will be preferred instead of the LCD panel and comprehensive changes will be made to the external design of the device. Not all of these innovations have been confirmed by Apple yet. Despite this, Gurman states that M7-based versions have already reached the advanced testing stage.

The arrival of the OLED screen to the MacBook family has been on the agenda of industry sources for a long time. OLED panels can offer advantages such as higher contrast, deeper black levels and lower power consumption compared to LCD screens. In addition, this screen technology also has some disadvantages such as higher production costs and image permanence that may occur in long-term use. It was previously stated in different reports that Apple was working on issues such as panel durability and energy efficiency in this transition.

On the other hand, it was noteworthy that Apple had been keeping its distance from developing a touch-screen Mac until now. In the past, company executives have positioned macOS and iPadOS experiences as different product categories and have stated in various statements that they do not favor the use of touch screens on Mac computers. Recent allegations indicate that this approach may change. In particular, the performance and energy efficiency provided by the Apple Silicon platform provide more flexibility to new hardware designs.

According to the information shared by Gurman, Apple is expected to introduce the standard M7 processor in the first months of 2027. It is stated that the M7 Pro and M7 Max models will be announced a few months later. In addition, it is stated that the M7 Ultra processor may be available in 2028. Since no official confirmation has been made by Apple yet, it should be taken into consideration that these information are expectations based on internal plans and the product schedule may change in the future.
