The eagerly awaited Apple M4 chip Mac models in the technology world will be released this year, the information was confirmed again in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. According to Gurman’s statements, the M4 updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro will take place in 2025.
At the “Scary Fast” event held last October, Apple updated the MacBook Pro and iMac models by adding M3 chips. At this event, the MacBook Pro attracted attention with a new Space Black color and a more affordable entry model, while the 24-inch iMac model did not undergo any major changes. However, accessories such as the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard still used the Lightning connector.
While new M4 chip models are expected to be released this year, no major changes are expected. Gurman notes that M4 chips were first introduced in the iPad Pro in May, but have not yet been integrated into any Mac models. The 24-inch iMac model is also likely to be updated with the M4 chip and USB-C accessories.
Exciting updates for Mac mini
Another point that draws attention in Gurman’s bulletin is that the Mac mini model will also be updated this year. The Mac mini skipped the M3 series chips and was last updated in January 2023. In this update, a new Mac mini model with the M2 Pro chip was introduced, but other changes were limited. This year’s update could be exciting for Mac mini users.
According to Gurman, Mac models with M4 chips will make computers more powerful in general. However, more dramatic changes are expected in at least one Mac model. Since Apple’s transition to Apple Silicon, new designs have been seen in models such as the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac. However, the Mac Pro and Mac mini models did not receive these changes.
Apple last updated the Mac Pro in 2022, reusing the design from the 2019 model. This decision was surprising to many, as the 2019 Mac Pro focused on modularity and upgradeability, but Apple Silicon greatly limited these features. The 2019 Mac Pro chassis is not an ideal solution for Apple Silicon and remains largely empty.
The Mac mini has largely maintained its design since 2010. While it has lost its DVD drive and had port changes since its introduction in 2010, it has always remained a 7.7-inch aluminum square. Dramatic changes are likely to happen in one of these models, but there are other surprises to come. A new MacBook Pro design could also be seen in 2025, especially considering the MacBook Pro has a 4-5 year redesign cycle.
Apple M4 chip Mac models and possible design changes are eagerly awaited in the technology world. Updates this year and next year could further improve the experience Apple offers to its users.
