Apple is preparing to introduce the more affordable Apple Vision headset, which it plans to release next year. According to the information provided by Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, the price of this new title will be approximately 2000 dollars.
The company launched Vision Pro earlier this year with a price tag of $ 3499. However, the company seems to have focused on developing a more accessible device due to this high price. Some reports suggested that Apple had temporarily halted Vision Pro development and concentrated on working on a cheaper model. Current information shows that this process continues. The high price of the Vision Pro makes spatial computing technology unattainable for many people, so the development of a cheaper model is considered a strategic step for Apple.
According to Gurman, this more affordable model will use a lower processor and cheaper materials than the Vision Pro. Vision Pro is currently equipped with a powerful M2 chip. However, it is stated that Apple may use an A series chipset, such as the A18 Pro, in the lower priced title. A18 Pro offers performance similar to the M1 chip in terms of speed. This shows that the new headset will come with powerful but more affordable hardware.
In terms of materials, it is claimed that more plastic will be used, compared to the aluminum and glass mixture exterior of the Vision Pro. This can significantly reduce the cost of the title.
The news also states that the EyeSight feature that Apple introduced in the Vision Pro will not be available in the more affordable model. EyeSight used lenticular screens that showed users’ eyes from the outside, allowing the wearer’s eyes to be visible to people outside the headset. Although this feature was interesting, using an additional external display increased the cost. For this reason, it is stated that this feature will not be included in the cheaper model.
Apple sets higher sales target for affordable Vision
Apple expects the cheaper Vision headset to sell twice as much as the Vision Pro, which isn’t actually a huge number considering the Vision Pro’s higher price. On the other hand, it is reported that Apple plans to launch the Apple Vision Pro 2 model equipped with a faster chipset in 2026.
