Apple’s Google Gemini Integration Could Happen Soon

Apple continues to make significant strides in the field of artificial intelligence technologies. As reported by Mark Gurman in Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Apple is expected to announce a deal to integrate Google Gemini AI model into its devices this fall. This development marks the beginning of a new and exciting era for Apple users.

Google Gemini has been at the center of iOS 18 chatbot rumors. Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi hinted at a possible collaboration with Google during his WWDC 2024 keynote in June. In addition to Gemini, Apple’s Anthropic is also on Apple’s radar. Gurman says Apple could also make a deal with that company. Meta’s Llama chatbot, on the other hand, was quickly rejected because it didn’t meet Apple’s high standards.

Apple’s AI strategy isn’t just limited to chatbot integrations. The company is also preparing to introduce a new AI platform called Apple Intelligence, which is expected to be available in beta this fall. Apple Intelligence will initially only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. This platform is reportedly aimed at making more profit than just a feature set that supports Apple’s hardware products. Gurman suggests that Apple could offer AI features that are only accessible by subscription in the future.

However, it could take some time for Apple Intelligence to mature enough to appeal to a broad audience. It remains to be seen whether the initial release will be compelling enough to trigger a large iPhone upgrade cycle. Apple also plans to leverage third-party AI services in the process. This strategy would allow the company to offer more choice to its users as it gradually rolls out its own AI system.

Meanwhile, it is stated that Apple will also receive a share of the revenues from chatbot subscriptions of its AI partners. The company aims to finance AI investments with this revenue model. This approach shows the importance Apple attaches to AI technologies and its determination to be a leader in this field.
