Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 16 series in the fall. But rumors about the members of the series have been around for a long time. The latest of these leaks claims that the iPhone 16 Pro models will catch up with flagship Android phones with a lens coating that will be added to the camera system.
According to the post on the South Korea-based Naver site; Apple is testing a new lens coating for the cameras of its Pro models. It is stated that this coating, called Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), will reduce lens flare.
It is known that the iPhone 15 Pro models also have a “nano-scale” lens coating that reduces lens flare. However, it is stated that iPhone users still suffer from this problem. A more advanced lens coating is aimed to eliminate this problem and improve the overall image quality.
The iPhone will not be the first smartphone to use ALD lens coating. Xiaomi started using this coating with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in 2022. Later, this coating was included in models such as Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. This coating was also used in Oppo's mid-upper segment Reno 10 series phones.
iPhone 16 Pro will follow in the footsteps of Android phones
Brands such as Sony and Vivo have also taken steps to reduce lens flare with Zeiss's T* coating. In short, advanced lens coating is nothing new for Android phone manufacturers. By adopting this solution, Apple seems to get rid of a situation that iPhone owners have been complaining about for a long time.
