Following the iPhone 16 launch, Apple is turning its attention to its Mac lineup, gearing up for an event expected in October. While the September event highlighted the company’s growing ecosystem and artificial intelligence developments called “Apple Intelligence,” announcements about the Mac and iPad were notably absent. However, Apple won’t be wasting much time introducing its M4-powered Mac models.
According to reliable industry insider Mark Gurman, the October event will focus on the introduction of Macs with M4 chips, and these new models are expected to offer a significant performance increase over the current M3 generation. The models expected to be introduced are as follows:
- J604: New entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 chip.
- J614 and J616: New high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with two pro-grade M4 chip options.
- J623: New iMac with M4 chip.
- J773: A smaller Mac mini, refreshed with M4 and M4 Pro chip options.
“Most of these Mac models (excluding the higher-end MacBook Pros and the Mac mini with the M4 Pro chip) have already started shipping from factories and are ready for launch,” Gurman noted.
It has also been stated that Apple expects all new Mac models to be ready for release at the same time. The M4 MacBook Air models (J713 and J715) are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2025, while the new Mac Studio (J575) will be released in the middle of the year. The Mac Pro (J704) will be available by the end of 2025.
Apple M4-powered MacBook Air Could Be Disappointing
The lack of an M4-powered MacBook Air may disappoint some users, as its fanless design is still popular. However, Apple’s move to its own silicon chips has significantly improved its line of computers. Apple computers, once criticized for their lack of features, are now strong competitors in the market. The focus on artificial intelligence in its new desktop models suggests that the company will continue its development in this area.
