According to the latest data shared by IDC, the global personal computer market continued to shrink in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. While most of the major manufacturers experienced a decline in their shipments, Apple stood out as the only major manufacturer that recorded growth in this table. While the company’s Mac shipments increased by 10.1 percent on an annual basis, its market share also increased significantly during the same period. The research company’s data shows that Apple has strengthened its position despite the contraction in the industry in general.
According to IDC’s report, Apple shipped 6.7 million Macs in the second quarter of the year. In the same period last year, this figure was 6.1 million. Thus, the company’s share in the global computer market increased from 8.5 percent to 9.9 percent. On the other hand, Windows computer manufacturers felt the pressure of rising sales prices more clearly, especially due to the increase in memory costs. The increase in RAM prices increased production costs, causing a slowdown in demand for many brands.
While the global computer market shrinks, Apple increases its share
Market leader Lenovo shipped 16.6 million computers in the second quarter. The company shipped 17 million units in the same period last year. Although Lenovo’s market share increased from 23.7 percent to 24.4 percent, there was a limited decrease in total shipment volume. HP maintained its second place, decreasing from 14.3 million to 13 million units. The company’s market share also decreased from 19.9 percent to 19.1 percent.
Shipments of Dell, which ranks third, decreased from 9.8 million units last year to 9.3 million units. Apple ranked fourth, while Asus ranked fifth, shipping approximately 5 million computers. Asus’ shipments increased only 0.2 percent year-over-year. Despite this, thanks to the shrinkage of the total market, the company’s market share increased from 7 percent to 7.4 percent. This table reveals that even small changes in shipments can directly reflect on market share in a shrinking market.
According to IDC data, global computer shipments amounted to 68.2 million units in the second quarter of 2026. In the same period last year, this figure was 71.7 million. Thus, the market shrank by 4.9 percent on an annual basis. The research company states that the ongoing rise in RAM and SSD prices may continue to increase computer prices in the coming period. Accordingly, while the growth rate is expected to slow down significantly in the second half of 2026, it is stated that manufacturers are preparing for new cost increases that may last until 2027.
It is stated that price policy was also effective in Apple’s performance in the second quarter. The fact that the company started to implement price increases in the last days of June does not seem to have significantly affected second quarter shipments. In addition, it is considered that the strong sales performance of the MacBook Neo model also contributed positively to Mac shipments. Despite this, the real impact of price increases on consumer demand will become clearer after the third quarter results are announced. Especially as the impact of rising component costs on all manufacturers in the industry continues, it will be closely monitored whether Apple can maintain its current growth in the coming period.
