iPhone Duo’s Standby mode can work without the need for a charging cable, unlike other iPhone models. Offering separate usage settings for two screens, iPhone Duo turns into a desk clock, calendar or photo screen when partially folded. This detail is especially of interest to those who want to use the phone as an information display at the table.
Apple’s user manual also confirms support for battery-free operation. It is enough to leave the phone half open like a book or place it like a tent. The device must be on the lock screen during startup.
First, turn on the feature from the Standby section in Settings. In the same section you can choose which folding positions will start the mode. For uncharged use, the option that only works while charging must be turned off. Then place the phone on a flat surface in the appropriate position.
The difference between this usage and other iPhones is not just the screen size. For other models, Apple describes the steps of connecting the phone to the charger, turning it sideways and holding it steady. Since Duo’s foldable body can stand on its own in supported positions, it separates the same mode from the electrical connection.
Set notification privacy when changing view
Once the screen is on, you can switch to different options by tapping on the current view and swiping left or right. Apple’s Standby user guide explains that in Duo, views can be customized in terms of color, font, content, and widgets. By long pressing, you can access the area to add a new view or edit the existing one. However, not all skins offer the same customization options.
If you leave the phone on a shared table, also look at the notification settings. Showing notifications in standby mode and opening details only when touched are different options. Thus, while keeping the time and calendar visible, you do not have to leave the content of the incoming message for everyone to read. Making this choice before leaving the phone on the meeting table or kitchen counter helps prevent unwanted information from appearing. Night Mode can also darken the screen and use a red tone in dimly lit environments.
On the other hand, no longer having to charge does not mean that the screen does not consume energy. If you use Standby mostly on your bedside table, you can turn back on the work only while charging option. This way you limit its use to the electrical connection without shutting down the function entirely. Since how much the battery will be affected depends on the screen settings and usage time, we do not give a specific consumption percentage here. When changing the settings, base yourself on the options you see in the phone’s own software.
