It is possible to open two applications side by side and store them together on iPhone Duo

The large internal screen of iPhone Duo offers more than just magnifying a single application. With Split View, two applications can be opened side by side at the same time.. With the phone being introduced to users on October 23, how this feature works becomes important. Apple’s user manual states that the two apps share the screen equally, and that this layout works in landscape orientation when the phone is open.

There are two ways to get started in Apple’s Split View instructions. While using an application, you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen, pause in the middle for a short time, and then drag the application to the right or left. Thus, the Home Screen appears on the other side. It is enough to select the second application from the Home Screen or Application Archive.

In the other method, you press and hold an application on the Home Screen or Application Archive and select the command to open it in Split View. Then you find and open the second application. To change the position of both sides, you need to swipe up from the bottom of one of the applications, stop in the middle and then move it to the opposite side. These steps come from Duo-specific guidance, not a general iPad window management recipe.

It is possible to think of the usage example through Photos and Messages. You can keep the conversation open while reviewing the frame you want to send on one side. Another example is taking notes while reading information on a website. The benefit here is that there is less need to constantly switch between applications to see the same information. It is important that both applications provide a usable view in a narrow space.

Compatible applications can open two windows at the same time

Split View is not limited to just two different applications. Apple gives examples of applications that support multi-windows, such as Mail, Notes, Safari and Files. You can open the second window by first opening the application in Split View and then tapping its icon again on the Home Screen or Application Archive. Thus, it is possible to keep two web pages or different documents on the same screen.

Apple’s iPhone Duo introduction also explains that frequently used app pairs can be saved to return to later. This makes it easier to achieve the same working order instead of relocating two applications every time. The company describes the iOS 27 layout, which moves application controls to the sides of the screen, as part of this usage.

Third-party compliance depends on the work of the application developer. Apple’s developer announcement describes the ability to review apps in different postures and orientations with Xcode 27.1 and Device Hub. The App Store also has a compatibility badge for apps that provide Duo-compatible screenshots. Therefore, checking the current version of the application you use daily is one of the practical first steps in taking advantage of the large screen.
