ProLogium and Rimac target 2028 road testing for new battery pack

ProLogium and Rimac Technology have completed the design mockup for the new generation electric car battery pack. The official announcement dated October 12 explains that, following the example of the Paris Motor Show, the development of working hardware will be moved on. While ProLogium’s automotive battery tests are progressing with different partnerships, this project second half of 2028 for vehicle and public road testing is targeted. Therefore, the example at the fair is not a package that works in a car today and confirms the range result.

The partnership of the two companies is based on the memorandum of understanding they signed in September 2025. ProLogium brings its cell technology and Rimac Technology brings its battery system development experience to the project. At the heart of the work is an architecture that connects soft-pack cells directly to the battery pack. The parties call this approach “pouch cell-to-pack”.

The initial partnership announcement outlined the goal of reducing weight and complexity by reducing traditional module structures. In addition, packaging efficiency, thermal management and design suitable for high-volume production were among the topics of the joint work. These goals don’t just focus on how much energy the cell holds. It also includes how the cells come together inside the car.

Rimac’s current statement states that it is evaluating different integration options in parallel on working battery sections. Thermal management, managing cell swelling and system design are part of this process. Some options focus on energy density, some on power output. The company predicts that once the approach is validated in the vehicle, manufacturers will be able to choose between more energy for the same weight or a lighter package for the same range.

Rimac targets working battery pack in second half of 2027

The roadmap does not move to the full package in one step. First, a working battery section will form the basis for testing cell integration and thermal management ideas. Rimac plans to show this part at CES 2027. The next phase targets the second half of 2027 for the full-scale operating package.

Proceeding in this order will ensure that test data taken on a small scale can be transferred to the next design. Once the full package phase is completed, placement in the vehicle and road tests can begin. The target announced by the parties for the second half of 2028 belongs to this verification process. This date should not be considered as a direct delivery to the customer or the sales calendar of a particular car.

For electric car enthusiasts, the main topic to watch will be the transition from the model to the working package. The current announcement does not share confirmed mileage or production vehicle price. What results the weight, charge and power targets will yield in the real car will be revealed after phased tests.
