The first technical information about Snapdragon 4 Gen 6, Qualcomm’s new mobile processor for entry and mid-segment smartphones, has leaked to the internet. The new chipset, which is stated to be developed with the model number SM4875, is expected to replace Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, which was announced in May. The resulting information shows that the processor will offer a similar structure to the current generation on the CPU side, while it points to remarkable innovations on the graphics unit and memory support side. Qualcomm has not yet made an official statement about the new platform.
According to the first leak, Snapdragon 4 Gen 6 maintains an eight-core processor structure consisting of two Kryo Gold and six Kryo Silver cores, similar to its predecessor. However, since the operating frequencies of the cores are not included in the shared technical scheme, it is not yet clear what the level of performance increase will be. For this reason, it seems possible to evaluate the processor only based on its architectural structure.
Adreno 6 series GPU and LPDDR5 support stand out
The most striking change featured in the leak is on the graphics side. It is stated that Snapdragon 4 Gen 6 will use the Adreno 6 series graphics unit instead of the Adreno 4 series GPU found in Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. This change can provide a noticeable performance increase compared to the previous generation, especially in applications that require gaming performance and graphics processing power. In addition, it is stated that WCN6750, which supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and WCN6450, which supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0, will also be available to manufacturers. This structure may allow flexible configurations according to the hardware preferences of devices to be positioned in different price segments.
The Snapdragon 4 series stands out as Qualcomm’s processor family for affordable and mid-segment smartphones. In recent years, gradual improvements have been made in this series not only in processing power, but also in connection technologies, artificial intelligence capabilities and energy efficiency. Adreno 6 series GPU and LPDDR5 support seen in the new model are among the factors that show that this development continues. Despite this, the fact that there is no major change in the CPU architecture indicates that the performance increase may be concentrated more on the graphics and memory side.
