Huawei HarmonyOS 6 surpasses 70 million devices

HarmonyOS platform, developed by Huawei independently of Android, continues to grow. New data shared after the company’s developer event HDC 2026 revealed that the HarmonyOS 6 version exceeded 70 million device installations. The latest figures show that Huawei has made significant progress in its goal of strengthening its software ecosystem.

According to data shared by Wonder Toolbox, the number of devices on which HarmonyOS 6 is installed has reached approximately 70.1 million. This number shows that the 66 million level announced by Huawei Board Member and Terminal BG President Yu Chengdong at the HDC 2026 event held on June 12 has been exceeded in a short time. The fact that approximately 4 million new installations have been made in the past few weeks indicates that the update has been quickly adopted by users. In addition, Huawei’s offering of HarmonyOS as the default operating system on its new devices is among the factors that support this growth.

Another data shared within the scope of the event was about the general size of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Yu Chengdong announced that the number of devices running in the open source HarmonyOS ecosystem has exceeded 1.3 billion. This figure does not only include smartphones and tablets. Computers, smart watches, wearable products, smart home solutions, connected cars and different internet of things products are also included in this total. Thus, Huawei’s strategy of spreading the operating system to different hardware categories has reached a wider scale.

HarmonyOS ecosystem strengthens its Android-independent structure

This growth of Huawei on the software side attracts attention after the significant changes in recent years. The company, which lost access to Google Mobile Services due to US sanctions, has been focusing on developing its own software and service ecosystem for a long time. HarmonyOS has also evolved significantly during this period. The company, which moved away from Android application compatibility, especially with HarmonyOS Next, accelerated the transition to a software architecture developed entirely by itself. HarmonyOS 7, which was shown for the first time at the HDC 2026 event, attracted attention with its new features focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence, agent-based intelligent systems and spatial informatics.

In 2026, the total number of installations of HarmonyOS 5 and HarmonyOS 6 also increased rapidly. Huawei aims to reach over 100 million devices in these two versions by the end of the year. In addition, industry analysts note that the increase in user satisfaction, the growth of the developer community, and the expansion of the application ecosystem are among the key factors that increase the speed of adoption. The fact that HarmonyOS has risen to the second place among smartphone operating systems in the Chinese market according to some measurements is considered as one of the indicators supporting this development.

Huawei’s development of hardware and software under the same roof ensures that the HarmonyOS experience works more consistently across the company’s products. This integration directly contributes to the user experience in areas such as performance optimization and switching between devices. Although most of the growth of HarmonyOS is currently occurring in the Chinese market, Huawei has previously stated in various statements that it plans to increase application support and accessibility in international markets in the future. HarmonyOS 6 exceeding the 70 million device limit stands out as one of the current indicators that the company’s independent operating system strategy has been adopted by users.
