Samsung ushered in the 6K gaming monitor era with the new Odyssey G8

Samsung officially announced its new monitor series, which it showed briefly before CES 2026. This time, instead of spreading its products throughout the year, the company made a comprehensive update at the same time. The new series includes the Movingstyle Essential model, which stands out with its portable structure, ViewFinity S8 for professional use, and Odyssey gaming monitors that appeal to different segments. The Odyssey G8 model, in particular, stands out because it is the product that the company describes as “the world’s first 6K gaming monitor.”

Samsung’s renewed Movingstyle Essential model now carries a 43-inch 4K panel instead of the 32-inch screen of the previous generation. Announced with a price tag of $900, the monitor can be used in different areas of the home with its height-adjustable wheeled stand. In addition, it also adapts to vertical usage scenarios thanks to the screen being able to be rotated 90 degrees. Features such as Samsung’s smart TV applications, Gaming Hub support and remote control are also preserved.

The main reason why the model is not directly considered in the television category is that it does not have a built-in antenna or cable receiver. However, due to the widespread use of online streaming services today, this deficiency does not seem to be decisive for most users. In addition, despite its portable structure, the lack of a special carrying or mounting solution to connect the game consoles practically is among the notable disadvantages.

Samsung’s new model, ViewFinity S8, focused on productivity and content production, comes with a 40-inch 5K resolution panel. The monitor, with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1000R curved structure, aims to provide a balanced experience for both office use and gaming. The model, which was announced at a price of $ 1,400, also has a wide range of connection options.

Samsung Odyssey series expands with 6K and OLED options

One of the striking aspects of ViewFinity S8 was its inclusion of Thunderbolt 5 connection. The monitor can deliver up to 140 watts of power. In addition, a built-in KVM switch, LAN connection and dual speaker support are also offered. Samsung has also added picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture features to display two different systems at the same time. This makes the monitor more functional for users who use multiple devices in a single workspace.

The most striking model of the new Odyssey series for gamers is the Odyssey G8 G80HS. The 32-inch monitor is the world’s first 6K gaming monitor, according to the company’s statement. The model using an IPS panel has dual mode support. Users can switch between a refresh rate of 165 Hz at 6K resolution or 330 Hz at 3K resolution. This approach differs from existing dual-mode monitors, which significantly reduce resolution, especially when switching to a high refresh rate.

There is also a 27-inch Odyssey G8 G80HF model for users who want a more accessible alternative. While 5K resolution is offered in this model, thanks to the dual mode, 180 Hz in 5K resolution or 360 Hz in QHD resolution can be used. The monitor, which carries a price tag of $ 1,000, targets users who want a high-resolution experience together with competitive games.

Samsung’s updates on the OLED side also attract attention. The Odyssey OLED G8 G80SH model comes as a renewed version of the OLED G8 released last year. Using the new QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel, the monitor offers 240 Hz refresh rate, HDR10 + support and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. A more assertive image performance compared to the previous generation is promised, especially in terms of high brightness and color vibrancy. The fact that the model will be available in two different size options, 27 inches and 32 inches, also expands user preferences.

The other OLED model of the series, Odyssey OLED G7, provides 165 Hz usage in 4K resolution or 330 Hz in Full HD resolution. Thanks to its 0.03 ms response time, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification and Pantone Validated color verification, it can be used not only for gaming but also for creative work such as photo and video editing.

The common point of Samsung’s new monitor family is their high price levels. Even the most affordable models in the series start at $900, which directs the products to the upper segment user base. Despite this, the new series, equipped with high resolution, advanced connection options and OLED panel technologies, seems to be on the radar of users who are especially considering renewing their home office and gaming systems.
