Sony’s wearable air conditioner is back with more powerful cooling

Sony announced the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, the new model of its wearable air conditioner series, which was first introduced in 2019. The new device, which the company built on the Pro model released last year, does not offer completely different hardware. Despite this, it contains various notable improvements in both cooling performance and comfort of use. It is stated that it has become less noticeable during daily use, especially thanks to the new structure that allows the device to fit better around the neck. Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus is available today in Europe and some markets with a price tag of 229 euros and 199 pounds.

Reon Pocket series has a different operating logic than classic portable fans. Instead of creating direct air flow as in Dyson’s portable air blower models, the device provides coolness through a metal plate that contacts the user’s upper back area. Thus, a more targeted cooling experience is offered thanks to the surface in direct contact with the body. This approach of Sony follows a similar line with the personal cooling accessories developed by different manufacturers recently. It seems that the interest in such wearable solutions is increasing, especially in regions where heat waves occur more frequently.

The flexible neck arms used in the new model are also among the notable changes. Sony has redesigned the neck structure so that the device can be placed more securely in the upper back area. In addition, it is aimed to hide it more easily under different types of shirts and t-shirts. Reducing visibility in daily use makes the device more practical, especially in areas such as office environments or public transportation. Despite this, since the product still has a distinct accessory size, it is not possible to say that it offers completely invisible use.

Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus offers lower temperature

According to the information provided by Sony, the surface temperature of the metal plate used in the Reon Pocket Pro Plus model has been reduced to two degrees lower than the previous model. In addition, it is stated that a 20 percent increase in total cooling performance has been achieved thanks to the new system defined by the company as “improved cooling algorithm”. This development aims not only to create a cooler feeling, but also to maintain a more stable temperature. It is expected to reduce the impact of sudden changes in ambient temperature, especially during outdoor use.

In addition, Sony is expected to continue mobile application support as in previous models. In the Reon Pocket series, users can generally switch between temperature levels and operating modes via the application. Some models also had motion sensors and environmental temperature detection features. It seems likely that the new model will include improved versions of these features. However, Sony has not shared all the technical details yet.

Wearable air conditioning devices are still considered a very niche category. Despite this, it seems that interest in these products continues, especially in markets where hot and humid summer months are felt intensely, such as Japan and South Korea. Sony has been regularly updating its Reon Pocket series for several years, which shows that the company thinks the demand in this area continues. Although the new Pro Plus model does not offer a major design change, it is a more refined update that focuses on improving the daily use experience.
