The Google Photos app is expanding with a new feature that can directly affect users’ daily lives. The developed artificial intelligence-supported “Wardrobe” system creates a digital wardrobe by analyzing the clothes in users’ photo archives. Thanks to this system, different pieces of clothing can be brought together and combination options can be displayed in advance.
The feature in question will be accessible through a new “Wardrobe” section that will be added to the “Collections” tab in Google Photos. The application will automatically identify the clothes in the photos and divide them into categories such as tops and bottoms. In addition, users will be able to create different combinations by combining these parts and save the resulting results or share them with others. This approach offers a practical solution, especially for users who shop frequently or want to use their wardrobe more efficiently.
Google Photos will offer combination suggestions with artificial intelligence
The new system is not limited to just listing clothes; It also previews how the combinations created will look. Users can evaluate the overall appearance of the combinations by trying on the pieces they choose on a digital avatar. This feature makes it possible to get an idea before physically trying it out. In addition, the ability to save the combinations created with a “moodboard” logic stands out as a remarkable detail, especially in terms of style planning.
On the other hand, this concept reminds us of the digital wardrobe scene in the 1995 movie Clueless. In the movie, main character Cher Horowitz could create outfits by matching her outfits via a touch screen. The system developed by Google makes a similar experience a reality with today’s technology. However, it is not yet clear how accurate the real-life application will provide recommendations and to what extent it will adapt to different body types.
According to the information shared by Google, this new feature will be offered to Android users first. It is planned to come to the iOS platform later. While the summer months are indicated in terms of the release calendar, there is no definitive statement as to whether the feature will be available to all users at the same time or gradually.
However, it is also worth paying attention to how such artificial intelligence-supported tools work in terms of data privacy. Since Google Photos already provides access to users’ photo archives, it is important whether the clothing recognition and classification processes occur entirely on the device or in the cloud. Users may need to review app permissions and data usage details at this point.
