Signal of big change in Search and artificial intelligence before Google I/O 2026

While Google announced the financial results of the first quarter of 2026, the first signals about the company’s future plans came. CEO Sundar Pichai made a brief reference to the I/O 2026 event to be held in May and stated that new developments will be shared on the Search side. I/O, which stands out as the company’s biggest event of the year, seems to be on the agenda with artificial intelligence-focused announcements this year too. Pichai’s statements reveal that Google’s efforts to transform the Search experience continue unabated.

After AI Mode was introduced at last year’s event, more advanced solutions will be on the agenda at this year’s conference. Pichai drew attention to topics such as Personal Intelligence, autonomous reservation systems and global access to the Search Live feature. In addition, it was shared that despite the addition of new artificial intelligence features to the Search results page, system latency has been reduced by more than 35 percent in the last five years. This shows that there is a significant improvement in performance despite the increased processing load.

On the Gemini front, it is stated that Google continues its basic model development work. The company focuses specifically on areas such as more advanced reasoning capabilities, autonomous agents and code generation. The fact that the cost of features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode has decreased by more than 30 percent with the transition to Gemini 3 shows that the optimizations made on both the infrastructure and engineering sides have yielded results. This development stands out as an element that can facilitate the presentation of artificial intelligence to wider audiences.

Google is preparing to open its artificial intelligence infrastructure to the outside world

It seems that Google is taking new steps not only on the software side but also on the hardware side. The company is preparing to offer TPU solutions, known as Tensor Processing Unit, to a limited number of customers. It is noteworthy that these hardware will be allowed to be used in customers’ own data centers. It is stated that the increasing demand comes especially from artificial intelligence laboratories, financial institutions and areas that require high-performance computing. This approach shows that Google is moving towards opening the special processors that it has been using in its own infrastructure for a long time to a wider ecosystem.

On the other hand, subscription services continue to be one of the company’s growth items. It is stated that in the first quarter of 2026, the strongest performance ever was achieved in consumer-oriented artificial intelligence subscriptions, especially due to the interest in the Gemini application. Similarly, there was a remarkable increase on YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. It was announced that in the January-March period, the increase in the number of non-trial paid subscribers reached the highest level since 2018.

Looking at the total table, Google’s number of paid subscriptions has reached 350 million. This figure means an increase of 25 million compared to the previous quarter. This expansion in its subscription base shows that the company’s effort to establish a more integrated structure that brings together hardware, software and services is paying off. However, the fact that investments in artificial intelligence increase performance while reducing costs may directly affect the scope of services to be offered in the coming period.
