The first mock-up images of the foldable iPhone were shared

A new leak has emerged regarding Apple’s foldable iPhone model, which has been on the agenda for a long time. Sonny Dickson, known for his reliable leaks, shared images of the model unit of the device and offered the first concrete clues about the design of the model. Shared images show that the device may have a larger body than conventional foldable phones. Mockups stated to belong to the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max were also included in the same post. However, it is stated that technical problems experienced during the production process may affect the release schedule of the model.

In the images shared by Dickson, both the front and back sides of the device can be seen, but the inner screen side offers limited information in terms of design. In particular, there are no details on how the front camera or Face ID components will be positioned. Despite this, the outer surface gives more insight into the design concept. It is noteworthy that there are two cameras positioned horizontally on the back, and these cameras are placed on a pill-shaped camera protrusion that covers approximately two-thirds of the wide body of the device.

Although the dimensions of the shared model are not clearly stated, it appears that the device offers a shorter and wider form compared to existing foldable phones. From a design perspective, there is a similar approach to Google’s first generation Pixel Fold model. However, it seems that the model Apple is working on has an even broader structure. Although this choice may seem unusual at first, there are claims that Samsung is also working on a foldable device with a similar larger form factor. This shows that manufacturers continue to try different ratios in foldable phone design.

There are difficulties in the production process for the foldable iPhone

While design leaks are on the agenda, uncertainties regarding the release schedule of the device also attract attention. Apple was expected to introduce the foldable iPhone model along with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at the event it usually organizes in September. However, according to information shared by Nikkei Asia, engineering problems encountered in the early production stage slow down the process. It is stated that the shipment of the device may be delayed for months due to the fact that the solution to these problems takes longer than expected.

According to information based on sources close to the supply chain, Apple and its business partners continue to work under time pressure. However, it is stated that current technical solutions are not enough to eliminate all problems. Therefore, it seems likely that the development process will take longer than planned. On the other hand, Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman similarly stated that the foldable iPhone could be offered for sale at a later date, even if it is introduced together with the Pro models.

The large form factor of the foldable iPhone can offer different advantages in terms of usage experience. A larger screen can provide additional space to the user, especially in areas such as multitasking and media consumption. However, the impact of this design on ergonomics and portability will be among the determining factors in the ultimate success of the device. How Apple balances hardware and software optimization will directly affect the daily usage performance of the device.

The emerging information shows that Apple is preparing to enter the foldable phone market with a cautious but different approach. When design preferences and difficulties in the production process are evaluated together, the possibility of the device deviating from the planned schedule becomes stronger. Despite this, how the final product will be shaped and how it will be reflected in the user experience will not be clear until the official launch takes place.
