It is claimed that Apple is working on a new setting on the interface side for the upcoming iOS version. According to the information shared by Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, there are no major Liquid Glass design changes in the latest iOS 27 version used within the company. Despite this, it is stated that Apple is working on a new setting that will allow users to control the interface appearance in more detail. The setting in question is planned to be presented as a slider that will allow you to adjust the opacity level of the Liquid Glass design throughout the system. If this feature is implemented, users will be able to change the transparency and glass-like effect intensity of the iOS interface at any level they want.
Liquid Glass design stands out as one of the important parts of the visual approach Apple has recently used in the iOS interface. This design language aims to offer a deeper look with glass-like translucent layers and light reflections in menus and system elements. However, some users may prefer a simpler or more opaque interface. It is stated that the new setting Apple is working on aims to respond to these different usage preferences.
Liquid Glass appearance may be adjustable system-wide with iOS 27
Currently, there are two different options for the Liquid Glass appearance in iOS 26.1. Users can switch between these options called “Transparent” and “Light Color”. The “Light Color” option adds more opacity to interface elements, providing a more distinct appearance. Despite this, the available options are quite limited and do not allow the user to make fine adjustments.
On the other hand, with the iOS 26.2 update, a slider that provides manual control over Liquid Glass opacity was introduced. However, this feature was limited only to the clock component on the Lock Screen. In other words, users cannot use this setting for system-wide menus, notifications or application interfaces. It is stated that Apple is considering removing this limitation and expanding the slider to the entire operating system with iOS 27.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple originally planned this feature for iOS version 26. However, applying the same visual setting throughout the system presented some engineering challenges. In particular, ensuring that different interface layers worked with the same opacity logic was a technically complex process. Despite this, it is stated that Apple reconsidered this idea during the iOS 27 development process.
In Gurman’s post on social media, it is stated that Apple is trying the Liquid Glass slider throughout the system again. However, it is not yet clear whether the feature will make it to the final version. It seems that Apple has turned to offering more personalization options in interface settings in recent years. In particular, the lock screen customizations that come with iOS 16 and the theme options expanded in later versions are examples of this approach.
The beta testing process for Apple’s new operating system, iOS 27, is expected to start in June. Considering the traditional calendar, it seems likely that the company will launch the new iOS version with the iPhone event held in September.
