Xiaomi seems to be making some radical decisions in the process of shaping its mobile device portfolio. According to recent allegations, the company may have suspended its development work on the Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 and Civi 6 models. These two devices were expected to be released in 2026. However, recent developments reveal that this expectation has weakened.
A leak source based in China claimed that the new versions of a foldable model with a small screen and another model positioned in the middle segment will be canceled. Although the names of the brands were not shared directly, the opinion that this statement pointed to devices belonging to Xiaomi came to the fore in the comments. Another striking element in the shared information was that the sales performance of existing devices was well below the company’s expectations. Therefore, it is thought that Xiaomi is reviewing its plans for these two series. Another factor to consider at this point is that this decision may only mean a one-generation break.
Cancellation of Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 signals a change of strategy
The Mix Flip 2 model, introduced in June, entered the market as the brand’s first vertically foldable smartphone. Although it attracted attention with its design, sales figures showed that this was not enough. On the other hand, the Civi 5 Pro model could not make a significant impact in the middle segment. In addition to all this, it was suggested that these two devices would also be offered for sale in the global market. However, Xiaomi only carried the 15T series abroad and did not make any statement about Mix Flip 2 and Civi 5.
This silence was interpreted as the cancellation of the global versions of the devices. Now, a similar situation is on the agenda regarding the new generations of these series. Although the leaker at the center of these developments generally shares information about Honor products, this time he made evaluations about the Xiaomi front. Although the model names were not clearly stated, most Weibo users agreed that this post pointed to Mix Flip 3 and Civi 6. The reason behind the decision to withdraw from the development process is low user interest and sales below expectations.
Two model numbers detected in the IMEI database in July 2025 were associated with the Mix Flip 3. The codes 2603APX0AC and 2603EPX2DC suggested that the device was being developed at that time. However, at this point, these recordings have not turned into a concrete launch. This suggests that the project may have progressed to a certain stage but was stopped later. There is no confirmatory statement from Xiaomi yet.
Besides all these, a similar silence stands out in the company’s Mix Fold series. After the Mix Fold 4 introduced last year, the fact that the Mix Fold 5 model was skipped this year makes this situation even more clear. Despite this, a new record in the IMEI database shows that Xiaomi has not completely shelved its plans for foldable devices in book form. This new device is expected to be offered under the name Xiaomi 17 Fold. Therefore, it cannot be said that the brand has completely abandoned the foldable device segment.
These developments indicate that Xiaomi has adopted a more selective approach in its product range. The fact that the foldable phone segment still appeals to a niche audience makes it difficult to return investments in this area. Despite everything, some manufacturers are trying to maintain their position in this segment, while brands such as Xiaomi prefer to act more cautiously. This cautious stance highlights the profitability-oriented approach. This makes it more understandable that devices such as Mix Flip 3 and Civi 6 have been shelved for now.
The fact that the Civi series could not gain a solid place in the middle segment seems to have been effective in the decision. Increasing competition in the middle segment makes it more difficult for brands to differentiate in this area. The camera-focused approach implemented by Xiaomi in the Civi series did not receive the expected attention from the masses. At this point, it is estimated that the company is reconsidering the way the product is marketed and its target audience. The lack of development of Civi 6 may be a result of these considerations.
Beyond all this, the impression that Xiaomi is trying to simplify its portfolio in line with its new product policy becomes stronger. In particular, abandoning models that pose a low sales risk means transferring resources to stronger product groups. This enables the company to reveal its long-term sustainability goals more clearly. However, it is a matter of curiosity how well these decisions will coincide with user expectations in the short term. Because some users still have hope for the Mix Flip series.
