X reshapes the timeline with Grok

X is preparing to place its AI-powered chatbot Grok further at the center of the platform experience. The company has begun testing a new feature with Premium subscribers on iOS that rearranges the timeline to be shaped directly by Grok. The feature allows users to pin specific topics to their home tab, and Grok reorders the posts shown in each feed taking those preferences into account.

According to the shared information, the system combines Grok’s content understanding and X’s personalization algorithm. Thus, each user’s timeline is organized individually according to their interests. It is stated that the quality of recommendations is higher, especially when topics that users already interact with are selected. This approach offers a more intense layer of personalization, unlike the classical chronological or general algorithmic flow.

This early access process is limited to the iOS platform for now. However, the company states that a similar experience will be offered for Android users soon. However, it seems that X is not only adding new features, but is also preparing to disable some existing structures.

X is preparing to kill its community feature

The X Communities feature, which has been on the platform for a long time, will be discontinued as of May 6. These areas, which previously brought together users with similar interests, did not receive the expected attention over time. The company decided to terminate this structure due to decreasing usage rates. As an alternative, users are advised to turn to group chats via XChat. This change shows that X is moving away from community-focused streams towards more individual, messaging-based interactions.

On the other hand, different approaches in the social media ecosystem also attract attention. Platforms like Threads and Mastodon continue to develop topic-focused feeds and community structures. This reveals that users have different expectations regarding content discovery. X’s new direction creates a clear departure from other platforms in this respect.

Expanding Grok’s role on the platform is not limited to technical innovations only. Earlier in the year, Grok’s image production tool drew international backlash for its ability to manipulate users’ photos without permission. The fact that especially young individuals can be affected by these contents attracted the attention of regulatory authorities. In addition, last month some young users filed a lawsuit against xAI and company executives, alleging that a particular visual mode of Grok could produce harmful content.
