X introduces tag system for parody accounts

X announced that it has introduced a new tagging system to easily distinguish parody and humorous accounts from other accounts. Previously, posts made by parody accounts were perceived as real by some users and even news presenters, leading to misunderstandings. With the new system, such accounts and content will be clearly labeled.

According to the statement made by X, the new tags will be visible both on the profiles of the parody accounts and in the posts made by these accounts. The company stated that this change aims to increase transparency on the platform and ensure that users understand that such accounts do not belong to real persons or organizations.

X used the following statements in his post on the subject:
“We are introducing profile tags to clearly distinguish parody accounts and their content on our platform. “These tags are designed to prevent users from being misled by making them realize that such accounts are parodies.”

It was noticed by some reverse engineering experts in November that this feature was being developed. As of now, users have to manually add a parody tag. This can be done by going to Settings and Privacy > Your Account > Account Information tab and selecting the “Parody, comment and fan account” option.

The definition of the tag was made as follows: “Parody, Comment, and Fan (PCF) tags allow users to indicate that their accounts are designed to discuss, humor, or share information about another person, group, or organization. “These tags create an important distinction so that other users do not get confused and the accounts do not create the wrong impression of affiliation or affiliation.”

X will require tags for parody accounts

X stated that he would share more information about making these tags mandatory for parody accounts in the future. The company’s integrity policy states that directly impersonating accounts are banned on the platform. However, parody, commentary and fan accounts are allowed as long as they comply with the platform rules.

This development stands out as one of the steps taken by X to prevent users from being misinformed and provide a clearer experience on the platform. Making labels mandatory aims to prevent misunderstandings by allowing users to recognize parody accounts more easily.
