Although social media platform X has complied with the demands of the Brazilian Supreme Court, it is still not accessible in the country. According to Reuters, one of the most important reasons for this delay is that the company deposited the fines in Brazil to the wrong bank.
X, which was banned in Brazil at the end of August, appointed a legal representative for Brazil in accordance with the court order at the end of last September and closed the accounts that allegedly spread false information and hate speech. However, the last step for the return of the platform was seen as the payment of accumulated fines of approximately $ 5 million.
X said he paid the fines and applied to have his services reactivated, Reuters reported, citing court documents published on Friday. However, Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said that the money paid was sent to the wrong bank and that the decision would wait until the funds were transferred to the correct account. X, on the other hand, argues that he paid the fines correctly.
X announced that it was cooperating with the Brazilian government
X has been banned in Brazil since last August. The company, which initially resisted the court’s demands, recently changed its stance and announced that it had started to cooperate with the Brazilian government. The court demanded that the platform close some accounts that allegedly spread hate speech and false information, and also imposed a high fine on X. Although the company has taken these steps, it is still not accessible in the country.
This new development in the process of completing the steps taken to reactivate X’s services continues to be a disappointment for users in Brazil. Once the payment issue is resolved, the status of the platform in Brazil will become clear.
