Samsung offered a new update to the SmartTHings ecosystem. This update allows smart home devices of different brands to work together on the same network thanks to the Thread 1.4 protocol. Thus, users get the ease of managing their devices from a single center.
The 1.4 version of Thread Group announced earlier this year draws attention with its low power consumption and more advanced compatibility features. In addition, it greatly eliminates the problems of brand addiction in previous versions. However, this new structure is supported only on certain devices and its expansion is progressing gradually. In addition, the ability to combine users’ devices of different manufacturers in a single network provides a serious practicality in daily use.
Samsung SmartHings Hub devices bridge between different ecosystems
The first devices that Samsung offers the update were Aeotec Smart Home Hub and Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2. However, the company plans to spread this support to other Hub models in the coming period. In addition, the fact that the SmartHings HUBs act as a border router makes this development even more important. Because these devices create a bridge between Thread Network and Wi-Fi or Ethernet, making the entire network managed from a single center. In addition to all these, the network structure is more stable and flexible.
In the Thread Network, the devices are divided into three different categories. The so -called “End Device ön can be controlled directly. “Router” devices re -transmit messages to increase the coverage and reliability of the network. “Border Router, combines the Thread Network with the current internet connection and organizes the communication of the whole system. In addition, the inclusion of SmartHings Hubs in this category makes it easier for users to manage multi -brand installations.
With the new update, Network management can be done through the “Manage Thread Network” menu in the SmarttHings application. There are two different options for users. The first one can be shared with third -party devices with the “Unify Thread Network” option. At this stage, the QR code or the disposable password provided to a secure connection. However, this method strengthens users’ hand in terms of network safety.
The other option is offered for those who want to add a new Smartthings Hub to an existing Thread Network. Users can include the Smartthings Hub in the existing network with the QR code or OTP password they receive from the third -party application. This method brings great convenience especially for users who have already started to use the devices of different manufacturers. On the other hand, the current structure of the network is maintained. In spite of everything, this flexible structure prepares the ground for the longer work together in the future.
This move made by Samsung is expanding the freedom of selection of users. As the restrictions between the products of different brands are lifted, a more integrated smart home experience emerges. In addition, users can make their own preferences without being connected to a single ecosystem. However, it is important for manufacturers to offer updates regularly for the sustainability of this integration. In addition to all these, SmartHings’s developing support structure also keeps competition alive.
Competition in smart home technologies continues without slowing down. Giants such as Google, Apple and Amazon are also conducting similar studies through the support of Matter and Thread. However, the expectations of users are that the devices can install smoothly and work for a long time. In addition, the increase in the number of compatible devices plays an important role in meeting this expectation. In this process, SmartTHings’s step enriches the user experience further.
