Windows 11 will no longer force users to update

Microsoft announced a new change that directly affects the update experience for Windows 11. According to the information shared by the company, users will now be able to postpone operating system updates not only for a certain period of time, but as long as they wish. Thus, it is aimed to prevent interruptions caused by unexpected updates, especially during meetings, games or intense work.

In the new system, Windows 11 updates can still be paused for 35-day periods. However, after this period, users can repeat the same process, making the update delay period virtually unlimited. This feature, which was previously restricted to a certain upper limit, is left to the user’s choice with the change. Despite this, Microsoft continues to emphasize that updates should not be completely ignored in terms of security and system stability.

Microsoft official Aria Hanson states that the changes made are shaped in line with user feedback. In particular, the inability to control the timing of updates and their activation at unexpected moments were among the problems that have been expressed for a long time. That’s why the company is taking an approach that allows users to be more able to decide when to install updates.

Windows 11 update check offers more flexibility to the user

In addition, Microsoft is also making changes to the shutdown and restart options in Windows 11. Users will now always be able to see the option to shut down or restart their device without installing an update. This arrangement offers a practical solution, especially for those who want to shut down the computer quickly. In previous versions, in some cases, the need to update could lengthen this process.

In addition to all these, the option to skip updates when installing a new Windows device is among the recent changes. Thus, users can access the desktop without wasting time during the initial installation. Such small but effective adjustments make the daily usage experience of Windows 11 more predictable.

On the other hand, it is stated that these innovations are not yet available to all users. Microsoft is currently testing these features with users enrolled in the Windows Insider program. Especially users in Dev and Experimental channels can get early access to these changes. After the testing process, the features are expected to be made available for general use based on feedback.

This approach by Microsoft aims to reduce long-expressed criticisms of the Windows Update system. Increased control over the timing of updates can positively impact user experience.
