Windows 11 steps into the password-free future with Windows Hello

Microsoft is preparing to offer a more modern login process in Windows 11 by renewing the Windows Hello authentication system in order to improve the security experience of users. This innovation, which is part of the company’s vision for a password-free future, was made available to beta testers in the Windows Insider program. Offering biometric verification options such as facial recognition and fingerprint, Windows Hello’s updated interface in terms of visual design and user experience makes passkeys more accessible.

With this update, which aims to strengthen passkey support, Microsoft makes Windows Hello available not only on the login screen but also when logging into websites and applications. Thanks to the new interface, users can more easily switch between various authentication options and choose their preferred method. With these updates, the company aims to improve Windows Hello not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of ease of use.

Third-party support and integration of toggles

Microsoft’s updates not only provide a user-friendly interface, but also allow third-party developers to integrate passkeys with Windows Hello. In this context, popular password managers such as 1Password and Bitwarden will be compatible with Windows Hello, allowing users to use the pass keys on their mobile devices in Windows 11. The company has developed a new API so users can easily sync passkeys between devices. Thus, users will be able to use the same key on different devices by registering their pass keys through their Microsoft accounts.

With the new update, Microsoft offers end-to-end encryption and TPM (Trusted Platform Module) support for users to store their pass keys more securely. By saving their pass keys to their Microsoft account, users will be able to use these keys on another device with Windows 11 whenever they want. This feature aims to facilitate the user experience while increasing security when changing devices or using a new device.

These innovations by Microsoft in the field of security constitute one of the important steps taken towards a password-free future. The company stated that these features will initially be available for test users in the Windows Insider program and will reach the general user in a few months.
