Forced restart, which is used when iPhone has freezing problems, is applied according to the physical button order on iPhone Duo. Apple’s official guide defines the first volume button to be pressed as the button closest to the side button. Instead of selecting the volume up key by looking at which direction the screen is facing, it is necessary to take this physical location as a basis.
This process is tried when the phone becomes unresponsive and cannot be turned off and on again normally. Not responding to touches on the screen is not the same as just having the phone turned off. If the device is working, you can use the normal shutdown method first. This way, you won’t make the forced startup step a habit of repeating for every minor app issue.
For normal shutdown, press and hold the side button and any of the volume buttons at the same time. Slide the close slider when the sliders appear. Apple’s power on and off guide gives this method for the iPhone Duo. When turning the phone back on, just press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
If the screen is working, there are two more options besides the buttons. You can access the Shut Down System option under the General section in Settings. Pressing and holding the power icon in the upper-right corner of Control Center also brings up the power off slider. If the touch screen is unresponsive, it may not be possible to trust these two on-screen menus.
Short press the volume keys, hold the side button until the logo
To force restart, first press and quickly release the volume button closest to the side button. Then press and quickly release the other volume button. Finally, press and hold the side button. Release the side button when the Apple logo appears. Long-pressing the first two buttons or pressing all buttons at the same time is not the same as this order in the manual.
The aim here is to try to restart the phone. This flow is not the process of deleting all content in Settings or restoring the system from a computer. For this reason, the expressions “restart” and “reset to factory settings” should not be used interchangeably. If the action you are looking for is to get past the screen freeze, check the correct button sequence before moving to another reset menu.
If the Apple logo does not appear or the phone does not turn on despite the steps, the problem may not just be a temporary screen freeze. In this case, Apple recommends proceeding with the support steps for iPhones that do not turn on or are frozen. Even if the problem persists after re-opening, it is necessary to follow the relevant guidance on the support page instead of repeating the same button sequence over and over again.
