WhatsApp made message options more practical on Android

WhatsApp has opened the renewed menu that changes the actions taken with messages in the Android application to limited beta users. WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.23.8 The new menu that appears in the new version opens like a floating window right next to the selected message. Thus, the application leaves the old top bar experience on Android behind and brings the more familiar flow on the iOS side to Android.

This change became more visible in the beta channel after approximately three years of development. WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp showed the first traces of this design in 2023. However, the renewed menu is no longer just on the development screens, Google Play Some people using the latest beta version experience this menu in individual and group conversations.

In the old Android interface, when you pressed and held a message, the options were located in the toolbar at the top of the screen. Additionally, the user had to leave the message location and look up to delete, reply, forward, or other commands. The new design brings these actions directly next to the message and reduces the movement on the chat screen to a shorter distance.

WhatsApp shows frequently used options in the first layer of the menu and selects less preferred commands. “More” moves to the section. However, it is not necessary to learn a different move to access the new menu. When you press and hold on any message, the renewed options automatically open right next to the message.

WhatsApp brings Android and iOS experience closer together

This change on the Android side brings the contextual menu concept that iPhone users have long been accustomed to to WhatsApp’s other major platform. Additionally, users who switch platforms find their messaging in a more familiar place. Since the need to reach the top bar decreases on large-screen Android phones, the transaction flow in the chat progresses in shorter steps.

WhatsApp, renewed message menu It has not started wide distribution for now. Not every user who installs the beta version via Google Play may see this design immediately. Because the company usually tests interface changes with small beta groups and then opens access to more users.

There is no official timetable for the stable release. WABetaInfo notes that more beta users may receive this change in the coming weeks. In this process, Android users can check whether the new menu appears in individual chats and group conversations by pressing and holding the messages.
