WhatsApp brings Events feature to group chats outside of Communities

WhatsApp announced the Events feature for Communities last May and stated that this feature would be available for groups that are not included in any community “in the coming months.” Although there is no definitive statement from WhatsApp on this issue; According to the news of the WABeta Info site, it is possible to see this feature in the beta version 2.24.14.9 of the WhatsApp Android application.

In the screenshot shared by the WABetaInfo site, it is noticeable that there is an option to create an event in the menu of a group chat that is not in any community.

WhatsApp will give the event owner the authority to change the Events feature

Clicking on the paperclip icon in a group chat now provides an additional “Event” icon that allows you to create a new event. Once created, group members can view and accept event invites. It seems likely that changes to the event will only be made by the event creator. It’s also worth noting that group events are end-to-end encrypted.

Android users who want to try the feature now can try it out by signing up for WhatsApp’s beta program. General distribution is also expected to start soon.
