Weather feature added to Google Maps Android app

A feature that has been available on iOS for years is being added to the Google Maps Android application. Android device owners will now be able to see instant weather information for their current location in the Maps application. The feature, which has started to be distributed, has not yet reached all devices.

In the Google Maps app, a small box appears in the upper left corner of the screen, under search bubbles such as restaurants, parks and gas stations. The box shows the current temperature, air quality and weather conditions. If there is an expectation of rain or snowfall, it is also possible to see the estimated rainfall time.

By touching the box, it is possible to see the highest and lowest temperatures of the day, the 12-hour weather forecast and the felt temperature. Tapping the air quality information again shows a general map of the surrounding area, information on suitability for outdoor activities, and the last update time of the air quality index.

As you go to different places on the map, the weather button is updated according to the location. If a location is selected or marked on the map, the weather button is removed from the screen.

Weather feature comes with latest version of Google Maps Android app

Although the feature’s rollout for Android started a few months ago, it’s now rolling out to more users. To see the weather button, you must have the latest version of the Google Maps Android application installed.
