Turkish students left their mark at Huawei ICT Competition

Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Europe Regional Final Award Ceremony, organized with the theme “Connection, Victory, Future”, witnessed the success of Turkish students. At the event, which was held with the participation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey and the Consulate General of China in Istanbul, awards were presented to the successful students, and administrators of the Italian Marche Polytechnic University Huawei Informatics Academy and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also took part in the award ceremony with their speeches. they took it.

In his speech, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Istanbul, Xiaodong Wei, said, “I would like to thank Huawei for its contributions to the development of information and communication technologies in Turkey and the world. “I hope that Huawei ICT Competition will attract more and more attention and thus contribute more to the scientific and technological development of the world,” he said.

Dr. General Director of Youth Services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey, presented the awards to the second-place teams in the Huawei ICT Competition Europe Regional Final. In his speech, Enes Efendioğlu said, “Under the management of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we continue to support the youth in our country with a total of 498 youth centers, 367 youth offices, 48 ​​youth camps throughout Turkey. It is very important to move forward with the right business partnerships here. The cooperation we signed with Huawei within the framework of the 'Huawei Young Academy' protocol is an important example within the scope of IT talent projects. On the other hand, the development of digital skills is an important factor to prevent unemployment. “We will support young people in this regard with the training programs we will carry out with Huawei,” he said.

Huawei European Region President and Senior Deputy General Manager Jim Lu, in his opening speech, said that the Huawei ICT Competition started in 2015 and that more than 700,000 young talents have participated in this competition in the last eight years. Continuing his speech, Lu said, “Huawei attaches great value to young talents with its 'In Europe, for Europe' approach and plans to contribute to the IT education of 100 thousand students in the next five years, helping them to fully reveal their potential.”

In his speech, Huawei Europe Strategy Director Tide Xu said that the zero carbon target and digitalization are among the important industrial trends for a smart world and that the IT sector is one of the key points in creating a smart world. During the award ceremony organization, the 'Huawei Young Academy' agreement was signed between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey and Huawei. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. General Director of Youth Services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey. Enes Efendioğlu and Huawei Türkiye Board Director Ma Yongnong attended. Within the scope of the organization, a panel was held with the participation of Huawei Informatics Academy European University Summit and award-winning students.

Three Turkish universities will compete in the Huawei ICT Competition world final

This year's competition; Innovation took place in four main sections: network, cloud and computing. Turkish universities stood out with their successful performances in the ICT Competition, where more than 700 students from 22 countries and more than 100 universities from the European region participated.

Erzurum Technical University, representing our country in the IT category from Turkey, won the first prize, while the first prize in the innovation category went to MEF University. The second prize in the cloud computing category went to Yalova University, while the third prize went to Gebze Technical University. Erzurum Technical University also won the third prize in the innovation category.

According to these results, Erzurum Technical University, MEF University and Yalova University qualified to participate in the global finals to be held in Shenzhen, China in May. Poznan University of Technology in Poland and K Labs Academy in Italy were the other universities that earned the right to go to the finals in China with the first prizes they received.
