Turkcell and Ulak cooperate to strengthen Türkiye’s 5G infrastructure

Mobile World Congress (MWC25), one of the most important mobile communication events in the world, continued in Barcelona, Spain, while a remarkable cooperation came from Türkiye. Turkcell has signed a strategic agreement that will accelerate the transition to 5G with ULAK Communication that develops domestic and national communication technologies. Within the framework of this agreement, ULAK’s 4.5G and 5G compatible base stations will be used in Turkcell’s 3,250 fields in Turkey.

This cooperation aims to expand domestic and national solutions in Türkiye’s communication infrastructure, while at the same time, it is considered an important step in reducing dependence on foreign generation communication technologies. Turkcell aims to bring 5G technology to a wider audience with domestic solutions, while plans to create a flexible, safe and high -performance network infrastructure thanks to Ulak’s Open Radio Access Network (Open Ran) supported base stations.

Within the scope of the agreement, all the ULAK 4.5G fields that Turkcell are actively used will be modernized and updated with new generation products. However, 3,250 new ULAK base station will be put into operation in different regions of Türkiye. This step stands out as an important development to provide strong and uninterrupted connection, especially in rural and low population density.

Ulak’s new generation base stations offer more flexibility and cost advantage to operators with Open Ran technology. Unlike traditional systems, this architecture, which allows different manufacturers to run hardware and software together, will allow Turkcell to create 5G infrastructure more efficiently.

Turkcell General Manager Ali Taha Koç: Türkiye’s ability to produce technology will increase

Turkcell General Manager Ali Taha Koç stressed that the agreement will increase Türkiye’s ability to produce technology. Dr. Koç used the following statements about his cooperation: “As Turkcell, we aim to be a producer country, not only a consumer in the field of technology in Türkiye. With our 30 years of experience and intellectual capital, we are working to contribute to high -tech production. This agreement is not only using 5G, but also an important step towards the development of this technology with domestic facilities. With our R & D team, we have been working with ULAK for a long time and we believe that the solutions developed by Turkish engineers can compete in the global market. ”

ULAK Communication General Manager R. Ruşen Kömürcü stated that the investment and R & D studies are an important gain for Türkiye. Kömürcü, in his statement, said: “In this process, all studies in the name of indigenousization in communication technologies are of great importance. It is a critical process for our R & D investments into products and Türkiye’s development of its own technology in the field of communication. It is very valuable for us that Turkcell is with us on this journey. We continue our work with the aim of becoming a brand of Türkiye for 5G and beyond. Together with our ecosystem, we will continue to support the technological independence of our country by developing domestic and national communication products from end to end. ”
