The USA once again approved the bill that could ban TikTok

The US House of Representatives once again approved the bill that poses the threat of a ban on TikTok. The new version obliges ByteDance to sell TikTok to an American company within a year instead of six months. If this is not done, it is possible that TikTok will be banned from both the App Store and Google Play Store.

In the statement made by TikTok before the bill was voted on again, the following statements were used: “The ban will violate the freedom of expression of 170 million Americans, destroy 7 million businesses and close down a platform that contributes 24 billion dollars a year to the US economy.”

While this statement did not affect the members of the US House of Representatives, the bill was passed with a higher number of votes than the previous time. While 360 council members approved the bill, 58 members voted to reject the bill.

Michael McCaul, a Republican Party member of the Texas House of Representatives who prepared the bill, claimed that the law would “protect Americans, and especially American children, from the bad effects of Chinese propaganda.”

US President Biden will approve the TikTok law

The law is also expected to be approved by the US Senate. After Senate approval, the bill will come before President Joe Biden for final signature. Biden had previously announced that he would approve the bill if it came before him. After this stage, ByteDance will need to find a US buyer for TikTok within 12 months. The company declared that it would use its legal rights to the fullest. It seems that this issue will be discussed much more in the coming period.
