The number of YouTube Premium subscribers exceeded 100 million

YouTube announced that the number of subscribers of its Premium service exceeded 100 million. It is worth noting from the beginning that the actual number is lower since this number includes subscriptions during the trial period.

YouTube’s subscription packages are an important revenue item among Google’s subscription services. The internet giant earned $15 billion in revenue in 2023 thanks to its subscription services, including Google One and YouTube TV.

YouTube paid and advertising subscription service started operating about 9 years ago. The service, which was offered under the name YouTube Red at that time, was later divided into two; It continued its journey as Premium and Music Premium.

Following the increase in November, single users must pay 57.99 TL per month, family package subscribers must pay 115.99 TL, and student package users must pay 37.99 TL to enjoy Premium services. Google increased the price of the annual package to 579.99 TL.

Although exceeding 100 million subscribers is a significant achievement, it should be noted that YouTube is still far behind Netflix, which has 260 million subscribers, and Spotify, which has 226 million paid subscribers. Disney+, which exceeded 150 million subscribers as of last year, seems to be a closer target for YouTube.

YouTube Premium stands in a different place compared to rival services

At this point, it should be noted that YouTube stands in a different place than other streaming services. YouTube, which has a greater variety of content compared to its competitors, also offers all of this content for free. However, it is possible to have a more advanced experience with a Premium subscription. At this point, it is worth remembering that YouTube has largely stopped producing its own original content.

YouTube continues to be a platform that progresses with advertising revenues rather than Premium subscriptions. However, it should be noted that 100 million is a number that cannot be ignored. This steady increase shows that YouTube Premium and YouTube Music will play an important role in the future of the platform.
