The official launch date for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which will be among Qualcomm’s high-end mobile processors, has been announced. According to the announcement made by the company’s China unit, the new generation chipset will be officially introduced on November 26. Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Elite Gen 5 models at the Snapdragon Summit held on the Hawaiian island of Maui in September. At that time, details about Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 were not shared, only information was given that it would be released in 2026.
With the new launch date, it has become clear that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will meet users soon. Qualcomm has not yet fully disclosed the technical specifications of the chipset. However, during the launch in September, it was stated that this platform would provide flagship-level features while offering users more options and flexibility. This statement shows that the chip is positioned for upper segment devices and performance expectations are kept high.
What will be the differences between Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Elite version?
Qualcomm had previously confirmed that both models were developed with the 3nm manufacturing process. It is stated that the main core in Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will run at a maximum of 3.8GHz, and the performance cores will run at 3.32GHz. On the other hand, in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 model, these speeds increase to 4.6GHz and 3.62GHz, respectively. This reveals that the Elite version will offer more processing power with higher clock speeds.
On the other hand, remarkable information about the core sequence of Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has also come to the fore. Initial expectations were that the processor would be configured as 1+7. However, Digital Chat Station, known for its reliable leaks, claimed that this model will come in 2+6 form, just like the Elite version. This configuration will include two main cores and six performance cores. This structure aims to provide a more balanced and powerful processing performance in multitasking.
In addition, it is reported that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will feature Adreno 840 GPU as the graphics unit. However, according to leaks, although this GPU is the same model as the Elite version, there will be differences in terms of performance level. So Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 may not be as powerful as the Elite version in graphics processing.
This chipset, which was announced in the Chinese market, is expected to start being used in flagship Android devices at the beginning of 2025. In this process, it is known that brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Vivo are working on Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 based models. It is important for companies to choose this chipset in order to ensure the balance of energy efficiency and performance.
