It is stated that a striking claim previously made about the camera system of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra model does not reflect the truth. According to Ice Universe, known for Samsung leaks, the company will not replace the long-range telephoto camera of the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a new sensor and shorter focal length lens. It is claimed that the phone will retain the telephoto camera module with 5x optical zoom and 1/2.52 inch sensor used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Previous rumors suggested that Samsung would instead use a new camera with a significantly larger 1/1.9-inch sensor and 4x optical zoom. Ice Universe, on the other hand, states that the claim in question is “100 percent false” and that no change in this direction should be expected in the S27 Ultra.
If this information turns out to be true, Samsung may make changes to other parts of the camera system while largely preserving the hardware in long-distance zoom. Question marks remain, especially regarding the future of the second telephoto camera in the current Ultra models. While the source said that the 5x camera on the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be preserved, it did not deny previous claims about the 10-megapixel telephoto camera that provides 3x optical zoom. Therefore, the possibility of Samsung removing this camera in the next generation is still on the table. The 200-megapixel main camera’s ability to create high-resolution images at lower zoom levels by utilizing sensor cropping may reduce the need for a separate 3x camera.
Galaxy S27 Ultra camera placement may be rearranged

It is stated that this arrangement may not only differentiate the external appearance of the device, but also improve compatibility with magnetic accessories. The current Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera placement directly influences the design of Samsung’s magnetic accessories like the Magnet Wireless Battery Pack. The wireless battery pack needs to have an unusual cutout to avoid interference with the cameras. Different positioning of the camera assembly could allow future magnetic accessories to fit more neatly onto the back of the phone.
It is also expected that Samsung will continue to clearly separate the camera capabilities of the Ultra and Pro models in the Galaxy S27 family. According to previously shared information about the Galaxy S27 Pro, this model will include a 12 megapixel telephoto camera that offers only 3x optical zoom. It is claimed that the rest of the camera system will include a 200 megapixel main camera and a 50 megapixel ultra wide angle camera. While such a structure will give the S27 Pro a high-resolution and versatile camera system, it will leave the Ultra model in a more advantageous position in terms of long-distance zoom. The fact that the S27 Ultra retains its 5x telephoto camera means that the camera difference between the two models will continue, especially at high zoom levels.
On the other hand, the fact that the 5x telephoto module remains unchanged may not mean that the zoom performance of the Galaxy S27 Ultra will remain exactly the same. Samsung image processing algorithms can achieve different results from the same camera hardware with methods such as artificial intelligence-supported improvements and cropping from the main sensor. Despite this, the previous rumor of switching to a larger 1/1.9-inch sensor pointed to a more comprehensive hardware innovation, especially in terms of low-light telephoto shooting. Recent information weakens this expectation. Currently, it seems more likely that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will maintain its advantage in zoom by preserving the 5x module and using it together with other components of the camera system, rather than a new telephoto camera.
