Microsoft has added a new one to the auxiliary vehicles that it has developed for a long time under the roof of Powertoys. This new tool, called the “command palette, is a continuation of the previously presented Powertoys Run. Designed by the company, especially for software developers and advanced users, this new structure facilitates quick navigation and access to commands within the system. Many components, such as applications, folders, files, system settings and web calls, become accessible through a single interface.
The command palette was first opened to Powertoys users in April 2025. The vehicle can be operated with Win+Alt+Space shortcut keys after the installation. Although this new launcher attracts attention with its visual simplicity, it offers a wide range of use in terms of its functions. The shell commands, terminal sessions and web addresses used by developers frequently can be opened directly through this interface.
Microsoft has previously included Window Walker, a previously independent Powertoys module. Thus, users who want to switch between open windows can now do this from one place. This feature, which works through the search line in the interface, saves time especially for users working with a large number of windows. One of the biggest differences of the Command Paleti is that it comes with privatization support.
The command palette stands out by offering flexibility to developers
Microsoft allows the developers to intervene directly by providing add -on support to the Command Palette. Users can use the open source structure of Powertoys and include their command arrays or integrations in this structure. In this way, the command palette turns into a control panel shaped by developer needs rather than a standard initiator. This structure, especially for users with corporate or intensive workflows, means an important advantage.
The new command palette allows not only intra -system commands, but also for calculation and internal searches. Users can use this tool directly when they want to do a quick mathematical operation. In addition, folders and file searches are also supported comprehensively. However, in order to use these features effectively, Powertoys must be constantly working in the system.
The default interface of the Command Paleti is designed to be simple and fast. This provides effective use even on performance -equipped devices in terms of performance. However, users who want to make in -depth privatization should turn to various configurations via Powertoys settings. At this point, having technical knowledge is important in terms of taking advantage of all the potential of the vehicle.
Some interface and performance updates made before Microsoft’s Build 2025 developer conference are also remarkable. Although the company does not clearly state that the Powertoys Run will replace the Powertoys Run, it is seen that the development direction is progressing in this direction. In any case, the fact that both vehicles are still actively available gives time to the user. This makes it possible to adapt to the new structure without interrupting the current workflow.
