Samsung’s next foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, has revealed its secrets thanks to a leaked image. While the overall design looks similar to its predecessor, the Z Fold 6, there are some key changes that set the device apart.
The first thing that stands out is that the device has a thinner profile. The Z Fold Special Edition will be just 4.9mm thick when opened, suggesting a slightly thinner design compared to the Z Fold 6.
But this sleek design comes at a cost. The rear camera island has grown considerably compared to previous models and has a square (squircle) shape with rounded corners instead of an oval. This change makes a significant difference to the overall aesthetic of the device.
According to the leaked image, the flat frame and slightly rounded corners introduced in the Z Fold 6 are also preserved in this model. This design element contributes to the phone providing a more comfortable grip in the hand.
The rest of the device’s design elements continue Samsung’s classic lines. The power button on the right side will likely double as a fingerprint sensor, and just above it are the volume up and down buttons.
On the back panel, a different surface texture is noticeable compared to the Z Fold 6. While a matte surface is preferred on the Z Fold 6, a brushed metal-looking coating is used on the Special Edition model. However, it is also possible that this coating is not metal but a textured glass material.
Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition comes with bigger screens
According to previous reports, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will be equipped with a 6.5-inch outer display and an 8-inch inner foldable display. These displays offer a slightly larger display area compared to the 6.3-inch outer display and 7.6-inch inner display on the Z Fold 6.
Unfortunately, rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will only be available in China and South Korea. Samsung has been known to release regionally limited special editions before, so international users may be left out of this exclusive device.
