Status posts will no longer be overlooked on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on a new interface change that will make status updates within the application more visible. According to the information revealed in the latest iOS beta version distributed via TestFlight, status posts will soon be displayed at the top of the chat tab. Thus, users will be able to access status content faster when they enter the application.

Currently, statuses in WhatsApp are located under a separate tab and are not in as central a location as Stories in other Meta applications. Despite this, signs seen in both Android and iOS beta versions in recent weeks reveal that the company wants to make this feature more visible. According to the information shared by WABetaInfo, the innovation in question is not yet active; However, it appears that the necessary preparations are continuing in the background.

WhatsApp status updates are integrated into the chat experience

With the new arrangement, users will be able to see their contact status in a scrollable area at the top of the chat tab. The design of this area offers a structure very similar to the story bar on Instagram. First, there is a shortcut where the user can share his/her own status, and then the updates of the people in the contact are listed. However, it is stated that this area will not be visible by default and users can access it by swiping downwards from the top of the chat list. This approach offers an experience similar to using stories in Telegram.

In addition, the order of the states to be displayed will not be random. WhatsApp’s algorithm will prioritize the people with whom users interact most frequently and move more relevant content to the top of the list. Thus, access to shares from frequently contacted people will be accelerated. At the end of the list, there will be a separate entry point to access the status of muted people.

No change is expected in the basic functioning of status sharing. Just like in the current system, posts will continue to disappear automatically after 24 hours. Users will be able to enrich their content with text, stickers, music and various visual effects. In this respect, WhatsApp aims to maintain a similar experience with the story features on Instagram and Facebook.
