The South Korean government temporarily removed Deepseek’s application, the Chinese -based artificial intelligence attempt from the application stores due to serious concerns about the protection of user data. The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said that if Deepseek fully adapted to Korean Privacy Laws and made the necessary changes, the application would be re -downloadable. Although the existing users may continue to use Deepseek application and web service, the data protection authority has given a strong advice to ensure that users should not enter Deepseek until the final decision is decided.
PIPC announced that Deepseek had detected a lack of transparency of third -party services and privacy policies. In particular, the application collects excessive personal data such as users’ keymad molds and this data can be transferred to servers in China. This brings the risk of violating the privacy of users.
South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) found that Deepseek gives different responses to sensitive issues in different languages. For example, when asked the origin of “Kimchi ,, Korean stated that this dish belongs to Korea, while referring to China in Chinese. Such inconsistencies create question marks on the reliability of the application.
There are similar concerns in other countries
In addition to South Korea, countries such as Australia and Taiwan banned the use of Deepseek on government devices. Italy’s Data Protection Authority Garante ordered that Deepseek’s chat boat to be blocked in the country in January. These countries share similar concerns about the application methods of data collection and processing.
Founded by Liang Feng in 2023, Hangzhou -based Deepseek launched Deepseek R1, a free and open -source artificial intelligence model competing with OpenAI’s Chatgpt. However, the company’s data collection and processing methods were a great concern for the security of state institutions and critical infrastructures.
The South Korean government stressed that Deepseek should fully adapt to local privacy laws and take the necessary measures to protect user data. Deepseek is expected to continue to work in cooperation with the Korean authorities to resolve these concerns and re -provide services.
