Sony has released a software update for its top-of-the-line wireless in-ear WF-1000XM5 and over-ear WH-1000XM5 headphones, bringing new features introduced with the LinkBuds Speaker and compatibility with Google’s Find My Device network. This can make it easier to find devices if they are lost.
A few days ago, Sony introduced its renewed LinkBuds headphone series and launched a new wireless speaker. This new speaker draws attention with its Auto Switch feature. Auto Switch allows users to take over playback when they stop using their wireless headphones. Currently, only five Sony wireless headphone models are compatible with the Auto Switch feature, and these models include the WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM5. This feature is enabled by installing new software updates.
The new software updates also require Sony’s new Sound Connect app, which launched this week. Thanks to this application, it is possible to locate both devices more easily via Google’s Find My Device network. However, Sony states that this feature is only available “during dedicated Classic Audio connection”. Although Sony does not provide further details on this matter, this statement implies that only the last known location may be shown when the headphones are turned off or not actively connected to the Android device, or that Find My Device support may not be active when using other Bluetooth modes such as low latency connection.
While the 2.3.1 version update for WH-1000XM5 headphones improves security features, the 4.0.2 version released for WF-1000XM5 in-ear headphones adds support for “LE Audio priority connection with Google Fast Pair”. This innovation makes the pairing process with Android devices even easier.
Sony makes both headphones more functional
These new updates offered by Sony make both models more functional. It especially aims to minimize the risk of losing devices. This new system, integrated into the Find My Device network, will allow users to track their devices even if they lose them outside the home. In addition, the user experience has been further improved with features such as Auto Switch and Google Fast Pair.
