Some iPhones experience heating due to Apple Intelligence after iOS 18.2

Apple has finally introduced the long-awaited iOS 18.2 update to users. With this update, new features such as Image Playground and Genmoji made a significant contribution to the Apple ecosystem. On the other hand, many users began to discuss the problems they encountered rather than the benefits brought by these innovations. Chief among these is the overheating problem of iPhones.

In discussions where users share their experiences on Reddit and similar platforms, it is claimed that the Image Playground application in particular causes the device to overheat. For example, one user humorously stated that the iPhone 16 Pro model has a “hidden hand warmer” feature. Rather than mitigating the severity of the problem, such comments actually opened the door for more users to share similar experiences. It seems that the innovations Apple offers with these features have also brought technical difficulties.

Image Playground aims to protect the privacy of users’ data by offering the ability to create images directly on the device. This system uses the device’s own processor and GPU instead of sending processes to an external server. However, this puts a serious strain on the iPhone’s hardware and causes the device to overheat. The heating problem not only slows down the speed of the phone, but also seriously increases battery consumption.

Users report that battery levels drop noticeably quickly, especially when using this app. “I’m literally counting down my battery level,” said a Reddit user. This can be explained not only by the application’s heavy use of hardware, but also by the lack of an active cooling system in Apple’s devices. Therefore, such problems may indicate a hardware limit in iPhone models.

In addition, it is stated that other Apple applications such as Photos and FaceTime also cause similar problems. Users state that these applications also trigger heating and battery consumption problems on the devices after the update. It is known that these complaints also appeared in the beta version of iOS 18.2. However, it seems that Apple could not completely solve the problem during the beta period and the update was released in this way.

Different experiences among iPhone users

Despite this, not every user experiences the same problems with iOS 18.2. Some users report that they can use Image Playground and other features without any problems and their devices show no signs of overheating. This suggests that problems only occur on certain models or with certain usage habits.
