Some Google maps users’ timeline data were permanently deleted due to a technical failure

Some of the Google Maps users have noticed that past position records have disappeared when they reached the Timeline in recent weeks. After increasing complaints on social media platforms and Reddit, Google confirmed that there was a technical malfunction behind this situation. Speaking to The Verge site, Google spokesman Genevie Park announced that some users have been deleted due to a “short -term technical problem”. The park said that only the backup feature can restore this data.

In Google Maps, the timeline creates a kind of location diary by recording users’ places day by day and hour. However, if the data backup settings are not manually manually on the user side of this feature, past data can be completely lost in case of an unexpected problem. This situation was valid in the recent technical problem. Google had recently started to store timeline data on the device. With this amendment, while keeping the data in the cloud ends; Only manually activated backups can be safety of data.

In this case, users who have not previously enabled the backup settings cannot bring back their position backgrounds. Most of the users attach great importance to these timeline, where they document their past trips or daily routines. Especially for many travel users, such data losses are a serious problem. In the feedback in Reddit, some users said that they could only save the data of the last few months, and others could not access any data.

How do Google maps actively make users the timeline?

The cloud backup settings, which can be accessed from Google Maps’s “Timeline” section, are made manually active from the application. However, the fact that this feature was closed by default caused many users to leave their data unprotected without realizing it. As a result of this technical problem that occurs in non -active devices, the data was deleted by Google.

On the other hand, Google did not share more technical details on the issue. The information, such as how many users are affected or deleted between which dates are between the incident, are not yet announced. This makes it difficult to clarify how big the impact of the situation is.

All these developments once again reveal that users should be more conscious about the safety of digital data. It is important for users to check the timeline settings at regular intervals, make cloud backup active and keep their devices up to date to avoid losing the location history data on Google Maps. Although the backup process may seem simple, it plays a decisive role in protecting user data in the face of such technical problems.
