Snap and Perplexity AI signed a $400 million agreement. With this collaboration, Perplexity’s intelligence-supported search engine will be directly integrated into the Snapchat application. Users will be able to ask questions in the chat section of the application and will be informed with conversational answers obtained from reliable sources. The integration is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
Snap shared this statement on the same day as its third quarter financial report. The company stated that the revenues arising from the agreement will be reflected in the balance sheets starting from 2026. Integrating the intelligence-based search feature directly into in-app interactions aims to increase Snapchat’s usage time. In addition to all this, users can access verified information via chat, combining social media experience with access to information. From this perspective, Snap’s integration is considered not only as a technological innovation but also as a move that will transform user behavior.
Snapchat experience will become more personal
Looking at the letter CEO Evan Spiegel sent to investors, it appears that this step is part of a long-term transformation. Spiegel stated that Snapchat will become a distribution channel for the spread of intelligence-supported digital assistants. In addition, he underlined that similar collaborations can be continued with different artificial intelligence companies. The exchange of information, especially within the chat interface, is expected to further strengthen the platform’s bond with its young user base. Another point that draws attention here is that the way information is presented is transferred to the chat environment, unlike search engines.
Snapchat is not limited to just search engine integration in the field of artificial intelligence. The currently used chat bot called MyAI works with large language models developed by OpenAI and Google. With the inclusion of Perplexity AI in this structure, the system will become more inclusive and diverse. This will increase the chance for users to compare responses based on different model structures. Although this integration seems long-term, it is clear that Snapchat prioritizes intelligence-supported systems in content production and access to information.
Snap’s investments in intelligence are not limited to chat-based tools. According to the information shared by CEO Spiegel, a new video production tool called “AI Clips” is also being developed. Thanks to this tool, users will be able to produce short, shareable videos with only text input. This is considered a feature that will make content production more practical and customizable. However, an exact release date for this feature has not been given yet.
There are also developments on the hardware side outside of the Snapchat platform. The company aims to introduce the new version of its augmented reality glasses, called Specs, to users before 2026. The new model is expected to be lighter compared to previous versions. On the other hand, it was shared that this hardware product will be restructured under a separate subsidiary. Thus, Snap will be able to act more flexibly in the hardware development process.
