Samsung’s 2027 plan revealed, 5 foldable models are on the way

It is claimed that Samsung is preparing to significantly expand its foldable phone family next year. According to information from South Korea, Samsung is working on a total of five foldable models that appeal to different screen ratios and usage styles within the scope of the Galaxy Z9 series. In ETNews’ news, based on industry sources, it is stated that a second model with more suitable proportions for watching videos is planned in addition to the existing wide-screen Fold design. It is also reported that the Galaxy Z Flip series will continue and a new version of the tripled Galaxy Z TriFold will be prepared. On the other hand, it is stated that the Galaxy Z Flip FE project, which is expected to be more affordable, will not continue.

It is stated that the sales performance of Galaxy Z Fold 8 was effective in Samsung’s decision to expand its product range. According to the news, while the first results of the model in the market exceeded the company’s expectations, Samsung increased its production target for this year by 1 million units. This table paves the way for the company to try different foldable phone formats on a larger scale beyond the classic Fold and Flip duo. According to the leaked plan, five different devices will be on the agenda next year: Galaxy Z Fold 9, a second wide-screen foldable model, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 9 and the new Galaxy Z TriFold. However, it should not be forgotten that the products are in the development process and Samsung may change the final model names and technical specifications.

Screen ratios may vary in the Samsung Galaxy Z9 family

Galaxy Z Fold 8 is defined as “wide foldable” because it offers an internal screen that is wider than its height when opened. The internal screen of the device has a resolution of 2448 x 1848 pixels and an aspect ratio of 4:3. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, on the other hand, adopts a different usage approach with its almost square-shaped screen with a ratio of approximately 9:10. According to sources speaking to ETNews, Samsung wants to add another foldable phone to these two options, which is more suitable for video consumption and provides more horizontal space. Since the device in question is still in the early stages of development, no concrete information has been shared about its screen size, hardware features or commercial name.

One of the main reasons behind the new screen ratio is the incompatibility between the video formats used today and foldable phone screens. While 16:9 remains common in television content, wider cinematic ratios such as 21:9 are frequently encountered in films and some TV series. Although 4:3 screens provide a useful workspace for photos, web pages, documents and e-books, wide-screen videos can cause noticeable black stripes at the top and bottom of the image. A more horizontal internal screen can reduce these gaps and help the image use the screen space more efficiently in games. However, such a design may bring about different engineering choices regarding the dimensions of the external screen when the phone is closed and the pocketability of the device.

It seems that previous claims that Samsung will abandon the Galaxy Z Flip series have lost their validity with the latest information. While it is stated that the Galaxy Z Flip 9 is in next year’s product program, the same is not the case for the Galaxy Z Flip FE, which was brought to the agenda with a lower price target. Sources report that the affordable Flip model has been cancelled. It is not yet clear whether demand expectations or rising memory costs were the determining factor in the termination of the project. Therefore, while increasing its foldable phone options, Samsung can focus on different screen formats and upper segment devices instead of a cheaper Flip model.

It is reported that work will continue on the three-piece foldable phone side. The first Galaxy Z TriFold was more of a limited-scale product where Samsung could test this form factor on commercial terms. Although it is not known whether the future model will bear the name Galaxy Z9 TriFold, sources suggest that the device will be offered for sale in a wider market compared to the previous model. However, there is currently no information that wider availability will mean lower prices. Three-fold structure; Since it is more complex than traditional Fold models in terms of hinge mechanism, screen durability and production costs, it will not be surprising that the price remains at the upper level.

If Samsung’s reported five-device plan comes true, the Galaxy Z9 family will become one of the company’s most diverse foldable phone lineups to date. In particular, the second wide-screen model can show to what extent the screen ratio can change the usage experience within the same basic foldable structure. While the Fold 9 Ultra focuses on a squarer workspace and the new wide model focuses on a horizontal screen suitable for videos and games, the Flip 9 may continue to appeal to users looking for a more compact design. On the TriFold side, a wider sales network will show whether Samsung will move the tri-folding design from a limited experiment to its regular product portfolio. For now, a significant portion of these models are based on leaks; Therefore, Samsung’s final product plans will need to be clarified for more detailed information on screen features, prices and sales regions.
