Samsung will only include Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in its new foldable phones

It seems that Samsung will continue its tradition of choosing only a single processor option in its foldable phones in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. The South Korean technology giant generally includes two different processors in its Galaxy S series flagships. The phones are sold with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in some regions and Exynos processors in others.

Previous reports claimed that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 model would be sold with the Exynos 2400 processor in some regions. This made us think that Samsung would take a similar approach to the Galaxy S series. However, a report on The Elec site claims that Samsung will sell both the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 worldwide with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Processor selection is important due to the notable performance differences between Snapdragon and Exynos. The Exynos 2400, along with its predecessors, has faced criticism regarding thermal management; users have reported increased battery consumption, especially when exposed to hot environments. More concerns have been raised about differences in photo quality compared to Snapdragon-powered devices.

Although the gap has narrowed in recent generations, these factors have triggered the preference of Snapdragon by many consumers and technology enthusiasts. Although the claim that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be preferred in Z Fold 6 has been made before, it can be said that the news that Z Flip 6 will also come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is new and pleasing.

The news suggests that Samsung's decision to stick with Snapdragon chipsets for its foldable devices is not due to any lack of performance but rather a strategic move. The Elec's sources stated that Samsung's choice stemmed from its desire to strengthen its relationship with Qualcomm while also prioritizing cost control measures.

The company seems to believe that expanding processor options for foldable devices will only become a viable strategy if these devices achieve sales volume comparable to the mainstream Galaxy S series.

When will Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 be introduced?

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are expected to be announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to take place in Paris on July 10. However, there has been no official statement on this matter yet.
